We are very proud to have such competent and educated teachers at our school. See below for our educators at our international courses. During the Court of Master Sommelier course we are visited by different Master Sommeliers to carry out the education.
Åke Nordgren
Åke is the CEO at Akebono, a sake importer in Sweden. He is also one of Europes primary experts in japanese food and beverage. He is a Sake samurai, which only 38 people in the world can call them selves. He is also a judge at IWSC and IWC in London.At the Scandinavian Wine Academy Åke teaches the WSET Level 3 Award in Sake.
Erik Plöen Casterud
Erik is the principal of the school and one of our main teachers. He began his career in the drinks industry by selling wine over the counter at Systembolaget in 2006. In 2010, he became a certified sommelier, and then worked together with Jürgen Grossmann at Restaurang GQ, where he was responsible for the wine bar. He has worked at SWA since 2014. He has a Level 4 Diploma in Wines & Spirits from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET).
Maya Samuelsson
Maya, she is the daughter of the Samuelsson family and one of Sweden's most successful female Sommeliers, previously named Female Sommelier of the Year and Newcomer of the Year at the Restaurant Gala. Mayas favorite subject is Champagne and sparkling wines. Since Maya has a lot of competition experience behind her, she now helps to coach others who wants to compete in sommeliers contests.
Anders Molin
Anders is a certified sommelier from SWA and has WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines & Spirits (DipWSET) - which is one of the world's most prestigious and advanced wine educations. Anders is also Certified WSET Educator in London regarding level 1, 2 and 3 Award in Wine. He is a specialist in Italian wines and is a graduate of the Italian Wine Scholar (IWS). He is also a Spanish Wine Specialist graduated from ICEX-CECO, Madrid.Subjects he likes to lecture on are Italy, Spain and the New World.
Dick Samuelsson
Dick is the founder of SWA. He has worked with wine for more than 35 years, and his background was with Vin & Sprit, international drink producers and distributors. He worked as a chemist at their test laboratory, and was responsible for quality assurance and internal training. In the 1990s, he drew up the syllabus for the sommelier course at Restaurangakademin. Today, Dick is Sweden’s leading wine chemist, and is always on the lookout for new knowledge, which makes him unbeatable at Trivial Pursuit. Dick is also a brilliant indoor bandy player.
